#GIRLBOSS - The business book for ambitious young women

Apr 26, 2016

After almost a year without reading (yes, I know, shame on me) I suddenly felt like reading dozens of books. But being in Japan, it is obviously quite hard to find interesting books either in french or english. The book stores are usually filled up with old classic that to be honest are not really my cup of tea. So when I came across #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, I picked it up right away. It was the last one in the shop, and I had a bit of a panic moment when I realized I didn't have enough cash with me to pay for it. So I obviously hide it in between some children books far far away from its normal place on the business book shelf, ran to the closest ATM and came back to the bookstore. Hopefully it was still there, waiting for me. Wait, am I the only one hiding stuff and going back to pick them up later? I guess normal person might ask the staff to keep them on the side ...

Meh. Back to the book, I guess you have heard of it before, but it is basically the story of Sophia Amoroso, now ex-CEO of Nasty Gal. I picked this book because I am at a point in my life where I am asking myself a lot of questions about my future and I was hoping this book might help me find some answers, and well I won't say this book changed my entire life, but I was truly inspired and motivated by this women story. To be honest, while reading the book I was making sure to always have a notebook close to me to pick up her best advice on life and business.  And she gives quite a lot. She provides some precious advice on resume or job interviews for exemple that might be really good for anyone looking for a job.

The book is full of very inspiring quotes by Sophia such as "You don't have to chose between smart and sexy, you can have both, you are both".

I might have pick up another one, some of you might think this one is quite superficiual, but let me just tell you that I am an anti dress code kind of person. I like to wear what I want and I hate people judging other on what they wear so this one really spoke to me and I am especially sick of women being judge for being too sexy at work. We're in 2016 dude, if a women wants to wear 10cm heels at work, well let her do. I especially love the intro and the very first part of the book as well as the part with financial advices. Being a young adult, money is something that I sometimes struggle with. And, being a girl that love shopping and make up I am in a phase where I am learning the hard way where I should splurge and when I have to stop myself and this book really helped me to manage my money much better.

WHAT IT REMINDED ME : Keep on working hard, no matter how complicated it can be and how many shitty jobs I will have before finding the one (I guess the same goes for boyfriend in that case right?) you have to keep working, remembering what is your final goal. No job is really shitty, you can learn and be creative all the time, in any jobs you will have.

WHAT IT TAUGH ME : How to manage my money a little better. I now think twice before buying anything, and I have real categories for my savings and what I can or can't use them for.

THE AFFORDABLE CHRISTMAS GIFTGUIDE (FOR HER)

Dec 7, 2015

Hello there. Christmas is right around the corner. I wasn't feeling like doing anything very "Christmassy" on my blog because I feel like this year the 24th and 25th will be a little bitter sweet for me, first because I won't be with my family, and also because in Japan people don't really celebrate Christmas. However, I realised that Christmas spirit was all around, all of the streets have nice illuminations, tones of Christmas cards and gifts pops up in the shops, and ... well the Vlogmas overload is not helping. Now, I do really have to think about what to get to my loved ones. I am still on the budget for this year sadly, and here is my under 30 euros selection. Excuse me in advance but I think this affordable gift guide will certainly be a girly one. I am the only one struggling when it comes to boys gift?

For a girl who loves fashion : Well I think Mrs Kristina Bazan picked an amazing date to released her very first book, Kayture on the Go. Kristina is by far one of my favourite blogger, she is an admirable young blogger and a source of inspiration for so many girls and I think any of your friends into fashion would like to give her book a read. If you're friends are not into reading, you can think about gifting them some nice accessories, such as a festive clutch for exemple. If she's more into comfy clothes, then it is the perfect time of the year to get her a warm scarf.

For the home decor junkie : We all have that friend that has such a nice appartment that she made us really really jealous. Well make her happy by giving her some nice pieces to add to her already perfect interior. You can get her a really lovely and modern frame. Add a picture of you and her inside and you have the perfect personalised present. You can also get her a nice mug set for the next time you will share a coffee in her living room. Another classic? Candles, of course. And if she is into homewear, you can't go wrong with a cute pyjama.

For the beauty queen : Well palettes? Palettes palettes palettes? Any kind of "kit" is also acceptable thought. As a lipstick junkie, I wouldn't say no to that lovely set from Too Faced, a good opportunity to try both their classic and metallic melted lipsticks. If your friend or sister is more into smokey eyes, have a look at Zoeva's palette, affordable but such an amazing quality.

For the geek girl : For all of your girls that have something for technology, chose an phone case for exemple. Not many people would spend 20 euros in a phone case, but they will love to be gifted one. I love this Unicorn one that you can find on Topshop.

#CHACHATS : MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR INTERNSHIP ABROAD

Oct 30, 2015

This post has been requested by a few of you. As you might know, I have been interning in Japan for the past few months. My internship being over now, I thought I could give you some tips about how to make the most out of your work experience in a foreign country. Let me first tell you about my experience. I was doing a master degree's in international management and marketing. This internship in Japan wasn't my first one, since I did one in Ireland for my bachelor degree.

Why Japan ? -  I have visited Japan a lot, I have been there five times before my internship this year and I really wanted to experiment life and work there on a longer period of time. Let me precise that I don't speak japanese, at least not enough to communicate at work, but I can speak fluent english and spanish, and I am a native french speaker.

How did I got my internship - Working so damn hard. My university gives us absolutely NO connections with any companies. We have to do the all researches procedures by ourselves, sending resumes and cover letter to companies that we find on the internet for exemple (Linkedin quickly became my best friend believe me). We are free to chose where, and what kind of internship we want to do. I started looking for an internship in November, and found it in February. It is a very long process. I used internet only to find companies working in marketing fields that could have projects I would be interested in. I sent over 50 resumes and personalized cover letters and get almost no replies, mostly because I do not speak japanese at a business level. And here comes my first tip, don't give up. No matter how many "no" or the lack of replies, I kept on looking for new companies. Let me tell you that hard work pays off, since I ended up finding after months of researches a french entrepreneur on Linkedin, that helped me to get connections in Japan. I had a first interview with him and then he introduced me to my boss. After a new interview, she selected me as one of her intern.

What was I doing ? - My main task was to work on the introduction of an european luxury brand in Japan. My company is very small, so I was working by myself on that all process during 6 months. Note also that my company is NOT a japanese company, that's why I could work using english only. It would be much harder to find an internship in a japanese company if you don't speak enough japanese.

What did that internship brought me ? - Well a job offer, and a big professional network. The job offer is not a 100% valid yet but my boss officially asked me to work for her. Being in a small company though there are some facts that are making the whole hiring process very slow, but I will give you an update about it soon I hope.

Now here are a few tips I would like to share with you. This is all out of my personal experience, feel free to comment and share your thoughts in the comments and let us know if you had a good or bad experience doing an internship in a foreign country.

#CHACHATS - ANNOUNCEMENT AND HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

Mar 13, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

We all have dreams, and goals in life. Setting goals, achieving them, it is making you feel complete. Today, I have a big announcement. I achieved this year main goal, I got an internship in Tokyo. For the new readers here, I am currently a university student, and I am on my final year of master degree in international management. Long story short, I love Tokyo since the first time I went there five years ago, but I do not speak japanese (at least not enough to work using japanese) and it was extremely hard to get an internship in Japan for that reason. But I've made it and it made me realize how important it is to dream big and never stop working till you get what you really wish for. It's gonna be a major change in my life, since I will be living in Japan for one year. From April, I will be blogging from Tokyo. I will be working as a marketing assistant. I won't say much about the company or projects I will be working on here but I am quite happy and excited. Now, I want to share with you some of my tips and recommendations on how to achieve your goals.

1. Set your own goals - Be clear with yourself, set your own goals, because you are the one who decide for your dreams. Don't let people chose for you whether it is your parents, boyfriend, girlfriend, or friends. It is your own path and you're the master of your life. Of course, there are things that won't work, you cannot expect to be the next Beyonce if you just can't sing, but if you know that you have the skills and the passion, then set your goals, and go for it.

2. Don't listen to them - You will always face people who will tell you that you can't do it. That no matter how hard you try, it is going to be very complicated. And yes it is complicated, but if you give up because someone tell you to do so, you won't be able to feel like you did your best to pursue your dream. I received tones of pre-made emails saying, sorry you don't speak japanese you can't make it or some friends told me to just forget about it. In the end, I didn't listen to them because I didn't felt like giving up yet, and here I am.

3. Surround yourself with positive and supporting people - There are people who will say that you can't do it. But a few people will support you and help you to chase your dreams. Don't stay with toxic people. In my case, I got so much support from two very good friends. They encouraged me when I was feeling like giving up and gave me so many good advices. And a special mention to one of them, english boss who helped me write the best cover letter ever.

4. Work, work, and work - I am a huge believer in hard work. I am not a lazy girl (I mean except on sundays). I can't stand when lazy people say I am a lucky person, I am not a lucky person, I work hard and get what I want. I know that nothing that's worth having comes easy. You have to work for it. And by that I don't mean getting A at school. If you want to travel the world, get a part time job, save money and leave, if you want to have a good blog, then spend time on it, work on your content and pictures. It's important to be combative, you have to make it happen. Also, never give up on a dream because of the time it will take to accomplish it, because time will pass anyway. There is no waste of time if you do something you love.

5. Build a strong network - Having connections and a good network is really important and I realized it during this research (especially in the professional world). Once again I don't feel like revealing too much here, but when I was about to give up, someone in Tokyo really helped me and I could get that internship offer. My dad told me when I was in highschool that I will soon realise that life is half hard work, half good connections. Couldn't be more real.

GET TO KNOW ME, 15 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME

Feb 20, 2015

Since a few of you are quite regular readers, I tought it might be interesting to tell you a little bit more about me. Moreover, I love to read that kind of posts since it is always nice to know more about the person who is actually writing posts that you read daily. All of the picture below are from my instagram, and you can follow me @charlotte_moulet ! So let's get into this, and share with me some facts about you in the comments, I would love to know about my lovely readers!

Hebergeur d'image

1. Around 3/4 of the people I meet think that I am half asian. I am not. Both of my parents are french. I have some italian origins from my mom side. One of my great grandfather was maybe asian. Not sure tho but it would explain a lot of my apparently asian-like features.

2. I will graduate from university in October with hopefully a master degree in international management.

3. I wish I could wake up and look like Shay Mitchell for one day. I think she is gorgeous, seems to be a nice person and like to travel the world. And I wish I had her makeup artist too. Always flawless.

4. I mostly wear black, white and grey. Add to this a bit of nude, and some printed shoes and you have basically my closet. I am such a neutral girl. Same when it comes to make up. I love a good old brown smockey eyes, winged liner and a neutral lip.

Hebergeur d'image

5. I know my two best friends since respectively 18 and 20 years.
We lived 4 years together. We have a sister like relationship, so we can be really harsh to one another sometimes but at the end we're always here for each others.

6. I speak french, english, spanish and have a few bascis of japanese.

7. I lost 20 kilograms (apparently 45 pounds) 5 years ago. I've lost most of that weight in 8 months. I followed a diet I decided myself and I never gained weight back since then. If you are interested I can do a post about my weight loss someday.

8. I can drink more than one liter of black coffee a day. And I love to drink it in my mason jar. With a straw. Can I be any weirder? And I also love ice coffee.

9. There is no way that I can eat seafood, except on sushi.

10. My dad wanted to call me "Clémentine" which is basically like a little orange in french. Thanks god they chosed Charlotte in the end.

Hebergeur d'image

11. I have a sick obsession for Starbucks. Since I live in a place with no Starbucks, everytime I go somewhere there is one I'll be the most annoying person and force people to go there with me. I always take the same, Iced Caramel Machiato or a Caramel Frappuccino.

12. I used to really not like Kim Kardashian, but I am kinda obsessed with her post Kimye wedding style.

13. I prefer my feet to hurt like hell than wearing flat shoes. I know, stupid but as Posh said, I just can't concentrate in flats. Might do a post about my favourite heels soon.

14. I have a tiny tiny scar on my left hip.

15. I wear the same necklace almost everyday. It is an old japanese coin (50 yens actually, which is ... like 30 cents?) that my dad gave me when he knew I liked Japan (he likes collecting coins). Since that day I wear it as a necklace. Since I travel quite a lot, I like having it with me because it reminds me  of my family no matter where I am. And this is the best conversation starter in Japan.

THE MONTHLY NEED LIST

Feb 4, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

Not following the typical wishlist trend, I decided to write about my real needs. Pieces that are currently missing in my closet, or stuff that I need to repurchase since I run out of them. Let's be honest, I would love to get 10 more NARS Audacious and a Vuitton Neverful, but spending my money wisely and not daydreaming about things I can't affoard is a bit more realistic.

Let's start with the clothing part. As mentioned before, I have a real obsession with men inspired clothes. I like to go oversized on top and tight on the leg area. That's why I want to purchase some good quality shirts. I'll definetly order one or two on Asos that are 100% cotton made. Along with that, I would love to get a new little black dress that will really enhance my bodyshape. The kind of dress you can throw on without thinking about it too much. Then, I'll have to restock on some basics tops since I throw away many of my old ones. I also need to find a good pair of dark blue denim since my Zara one are completely worn off, I'm thinking about getting some Leigh or Jamie jeans from Topshop. For the shoes, because of course there are always shoes involved, I need some lovely and pointy nude heels.

Hebergeur d'image

Now makeup and skin care wise, even if I really want to try some new makeup realease (the Maybelline lip pencil that everyone talk about are screaming at me everytime I go to my fave drugstore), I really need to get some of the La Roche Posay products. I have to repurchase the Effaclar duo and I want to try their Micellar water. I also need a back up of body butter and body lotion since I'm completely out of my previous one. But here is my dilema, Mango Temptation or Love Spell?

WHAT I WANT -  Asos dress, LaRochePosay Effaclar - Topshop Leigh Jean - VS Mango Tempation Body Butter & Lotion - Topshop Gemini in Nude

LIEBSTAR AWARD, MY FIRST TAG EVER

Jan 15, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

Hello there! Sorry for being away for more than a week now! The past two weeks have been epic! Basically, I am finishing university tomorrow (no more classes, but and internship and reports to finish), so for the past 14 days I had a crazy amount of exams and presentations and 4 to 5 hours of sleep at night (my skin really loved it). But today I finally had my two last presentations! Tomorrow is the last day of class, and it's bitter sweet in a way, I've spend 5 years of my life in this university, but this year has been special, because of the lovely classmates and the intense amount of work. Got some tensions but in the end lot of laugh and love. It's hard to leave them, but we're all ready to write a new chapter of our lives I guess. Anyway, to restart I decided to reply to some questions that the lovely Alice asked me in the Liebstar Award. I don't have time to pick any of you tonight, but feel free to reply to these questions and link your blog in the comments!

1 - WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK AND WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR?

My favourite book is definelty Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami who is by the way my favourite author. He is japanese and has such an incredible style. I think it's the kind of author that you either really like or totally hate, but I am just completely in love with so many of his books. About Norwegian Wood, I don't want to give you any spoilers but it's a love story between two students, it's kinda hard to explain but it's super poignant and the end guys... just read it until the end. It was just the kind of book, that it's 3AM, have class the next day, but don't care at all because you just can't stop to read it! And I'm so happy to finally have some time for myself to read Murakami new book, and maybe read this one once again.

2 - AN OLD SONG YOU LOVE?
Depends on what's old means here. If it's childhood like old, I would have to say any 2000's Britney Spears song. Stronger, Overprotected? I mean, Crossroads use to be one of my favorite films. Just remind me the girly sleepover at my best friends house. I would have to pick a few Destiny's Child one too. The Beyonce addiction started quite young actually.

3 - WHEN DID YOU START BLOGGING ? WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START?
I'll talk about my more adult blog, because no one care about the old and useless blogs I had when I was a high school student right? So fashion fixes hearts is my first grown up blog. I first started it in 2012, because I was reading a lot of other beauty and fashion blog and felt like I wanted to have my own space to talk about what I liked! But then come the master degree and its crazy amount of work. As my formation has always been super important to me, I decided to stop blogging for a while, because I like to do things a 100% or not at all. But now that I finally have time, I'm starting again and I hope I can give you some good content!

4 - WHAT IS THE FIRST BLOG YOU STARTED READING?
Fashion Toast. I remember how obsessed I was with Rumi style back in 2008! (still obsessed by the way, I think she's one of the blogger with the strongest style identity)

5 - PET PEEVES?
Bad-mannered children and people and general. I can't stand children who are crying to get stuff in shops or talking rude to their parents or strangers. Noisy children in general, in closed space, like buses or planes. Oh and girls who act overlly cute, like ... da girl can you just stop that?

6 - WHAT'S YOUR GO TO NAIL POLISH ?
I'm biting my nails for so long that I can't even reply to this! Let's say that when I'm having my gel manucure done, I usually go for a lovely nude or light pink color because I think it matches every outfit.

7 - WHAT'S YOUR BEST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE?
Tokyo, a 100%. I've been there five times but I can't pick just a single travel. They were all very special to me. I love this city and it really holds an important place in my heart, I feel like it became my second home. I love how it's big and tiny at the same time, I love japanese people, the way they act always so politely, their way of thinking, but also the food, culture and the amazing fashion sense of the population. I can litteraly stay two or three hours by myself in a coffee just staring at people when I'm there. I've met incredible persons, some of them being very good friends now. All of the people I met in Japan were nice, helpful, and respectful.  For many people it might be just another big city, but I just think it's beautiful. I love Tokyo because it just add so much to my life. It gave me love and confidence.

8 - BEST AND WORST SCHOOL SUBJECTS?
I think that talking about "highschool type" subjects will be more relevant here. So ... math, math were the worst school subject EVER to me. I just can't understand it, and I never tried to. For the best, languages, english and spanish were by far my favourites.

9 - FAVOURITE LIPSTICK COLOUR?
How can you ask that to a lipstick junkie. Well I like to wear kind of rosy nude, or antique pink colors. If I had to pick one I would say the Rouge Volupte lipstick by YSL in Pink Paris. Or for a much more affordable option, the Revlon Matte Balm in Elusive. I'm almost out of mine and I'll definetly repurchased it!

10 - DREAM JOB?
I would love to work for a cosmetic company, in the marketing area if possible. But my real dream would be to work in a foreign country. I have interest for the United States, Canada or Asian countries such as Japan for example.

11 - FAVOURITE ONLINE SHOPPING WEBSITE?Sorry, I can't pick between my two absolute loves. Zara and Asos !

MY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS & GOALS

Dec 30, 2014

Here it comes! New year resolutions! First of all, I hope you all had an amazing Christmas, and that you'll have an amazing year in 2015. I usually don't really take new years resolutions but for the sake of this blog I thought, why not. It might be funny to look back to this in a few months and see if I could stick to it, or if I just gave up after a few weeks. Some of this resolutions are more new goals than bad habit stopping but anyway! And feel free to share with me your new year resolutions and what you would like to achieve during this year.

1. Being fit : Ok I am starting with the one I'll for almost 100% sure fail. Being fit, and working out. I hope than my schedule will allow me in 2015 to have some work out session since I really need to get much fitted in some area! Last year, I litterally try to follow some working out routine from youtube but, oh damn biggest fail ever.

Hebergeur d'image

2. Eating healthier : My food habits are not that bad. Since I managed to lose 20 kilograms 4 or 5 years ago, my way of eating has change so much and have been much healthier. But for 2015, I would love to learn to cook some yummy and healthy food that will still tasting really good.

3. Working hard on this blog : Everytime I have time, which wasn't this often because of university, I always go back to blogging. I really really enjoy it and I hope I can get this blog as far as I can during this new year, and that I'll be able to give you guys a great and consistent content!

4. Graduating from university : Yes guys I'm almost there, I already own a bachelor degree in foreign languages and business administration, and I've been following up with a master degree in international management. I still have two weeks of school left, and then need to find some good internship and write a supa dupa long essay to finally be done with school. I'm proud of what I've accomplished so far and I can't wait to write a new chapter in my life.

Hebergeur d'image

5. Quality over quantity : Here comes the most fashion and beauty part. I'm in the process since a few months of wardrobe and make up collection cleaning. I want to stick up to the essential and really build myself a style that represent me and that we'll make me feel confident. Even if it's hard, I'll try to shop a little less and to reach for more quality and timeless pieces!

6. Make my big project a reality : Since high school, I promised myself that once I'll be done with university, I'll take a year for myself and spend it in one of the place I love the most on earth : Tokyo. Yes for those of you who doesn't follow me on instagram or are totally new here, I've been to Tokyo 5 times already, and I deeply felt in love with this place on the very first time I went there. So I'm planning for years to spend a year of my life there and see what I can learn from it! So yes after graduation in a few months, that's definetly something I plan to do, hopefully in 2015!

5 COMPLETELY ADDICTIVE YOUTUBE CHANNELS

Dec 28, 2014

Hebergeur d'image

If spending more than 2 hours a day on Youtube is a crime ... I am so freking guilty. It has become a real part of my night time routine now, I just take some time for myself, drink some hot coffee (does anyone else drink coffee at night?) and watch all of my favorite youtubers videos. It was more than hard to pick only 5 but I didn't wanted to make this post overlly long. Oh and let me know in the comment if you like Youtube and who are your favorite youtubers!

1. Claire Marshall from HeyClaire : Let's be clear here; Claire is my all time favorite Youtuber. She's like ... the coolest girl on earth litterally. Super stylish, funny, and with the best editing skills ever! I mean, have you ever seen her favorite lipsticks videos? Da, youtube classic guys! She also had amazing hair and we all know that amazing hair is always a big plus. I love watching her vlog videos, which are always very well made. She definetly put so much effort in her videos and always think about a real story line for them.

2. Barbara Rossi from the Persian Babe : Babe alert! I love this girl. Barbara if you're reading this, we should be best friend. She has a style which is really close to mine: Lot of black and white, a pretty collection of high heels and some trendy and timeless items all perfectly mixed together. Every time I watch her haul videos I have to add new items on my wishlist. She has been collaborating with Topshop for a few months now and always come up with the best outfits in her lookbooks. A must watch for all fashion lovers!

3. Anna from Viviannadoesmakeup : Anna is that Youtube girl next door that every chick would love to have as a friend. She's so natural and always have amazing tips and products recommendations. Found out about my favorite drugstore lipstick of the year, aka the Bourjois Velvet Edition because of her! She's the cutest, and I always starts my sunday watching her videos!

4. Kathleen from KathleenLights : This girl is one of the funniest beauty gurus out there. Damn everytime she's talking about high end products, mimicking the latino accent "30 dollars for a lipstick? thass essspenssive" I can't help but laugh. Plus she's super cute and really talented when it comes to makeup. She's the type of girl that can achieve amazing make up looks with the cheapest produtcs out there!

5. Heart Defensor from ThatsHeart : I've been watching Heart's videos for years now, and she is definetly the cutest girl on my subscription box feed. She's also one of the only youtuber I watched vlogmas every single day for two years in a row. Because she's that cute guys! She seemed to be the nicest girl ever, her little dog Junior is also adorable, and I mean, her and her boyfriend Arnold has the kind of relationship every girl dream to have one day! About her main chanel content, lots of beauty related videos, hauls, lookbook, make up tutorials, all really well made and with a very girly touch. Definetly check her out.
