THINGS I LEARNT IN 10 YEARS OF WEARING MAKE UP

Jan 31, 2015

I can't say I always had an interest in girly things and make up. In fact I was quite a boyish little girl, I hated dresses and skirts, and I used to play with my brothers toys instead of Barbie dolls. But it didn't last long and as soon as I started middle school I had my first make up moments. I know, I was young but don't worry it wasn't a full face of make up, just candies scented lip glosses and sometimes a little bit of eye liner (you now, black eye liner, on the water line only...) My mom was actually the one who bought me my very first make up item, a cotton candy scented lipgloss that I loved! Anyway, it's been almost 10 years now that I had my first make up tries, and thanks god, my skills have been growing so so much, especially the past 4 or 5 years (thanks Youtube). Here are a few things I learnt with time and I want to share with you.

Hebergeur d'image

1. Flawless makeup takes time - I don't believe in the "5 minutes makeup trend". If you want to apply your base correctly, a good 20 minutes is needed. I am a busy college student, I wake up early on the morning but, with a bit of organisation you can find those 20 minutes. Planning your outfit and not hitting the snooze button are the first steps to a good makeup look. When I want my make up to look flawless and natural, time is always the best solution. It's important to prepare your skin, with a moisturizer and if you have it a primer. Then, blending is always the key, weather it is for foundation, bronzer, blush or eye shadow.

2. Be light handed - That's the mistake we tend to do when we're young, I remember I applied concealer all over my face once to hide my acne, and my mom was horrified when she saw me. Build your make up slowly. Dabbing three pumps of foundation directly on the skin is not a solution to get a good coverage, it'll juste make you look caky because the product won't blend easily. First, apply a thin layer and build up the coverage if necessary. When using a liquid foundation, I would definetly recommend to use a stappling brush or a beauty blender to really buff the product into your skin. Same goes for bronzer, contouring is in, harsh brown line on your cheeks, not really. For eye shadow, start by applying a transition shade that will help you smooth out any smockey eyes look. A lot of eye shadows are highly pigmented nowadays so there is no need to put a lot of product on your brush to have a good color pay off.

Hebergeur d'image 3. Knowing your skin type and shades : It's important to identify your skin type. Oily? Dry? Do you have any allergies? Once you know that, it's gonna be much easier to buy products that will work on you. Chosing the right foundation shade is also the key to any good make up look. Don't forget to change it with the season, we often get a little tan in summer and you don't want to look like a ghost using you winter foundation shade. And if you wanna look tan in the winter ... choosing an orange toned foundation won't make the trick girl.

4. Brows are game changing : Ok can we instaure a law about eye brows? Girls need to take care of there brows, find the right shape for your face, don't over pluck them, and fill them in. Be carefull, full brows are in, over drawn ones are not! You can find tons of eye brow tutorials brows tutorial that will explain you how to pluck them and fill them in a natural way that will compliment your face shape!

As a new blogger, I think it's really important to visit, read and post comments on other blogs. In fact, it's important first to share the love, and pay attention to other fellow bloggers work. Visiting other blogs always inspire me and motivate me to write more, and I love reading blogging tips and advices from my favourite bloggers. I also love to read some good makeup or skincare reviews, especially before going shopping and I think it's also a simple way to start lovely friendship through the comment box. Recently I had a little more time to myself and I am reading much more blogs than the past few months. I decided to share with you four favourites of mine, not including my two beauty blog bibles, Vivianna Does Makeup and Lily Pebbles. The layout of her blog is clean yet a little girly, she comes up with really good post ideas and her pictures are really clean and profesional looking (teach me how to do that so I won't post my gross and ugly pictures!). Can't wait to try her raw coconut chocolate slice recipe by the way, it looks super yummy!

FASHION EDIT - THE BOYFRIEND SHIRT

Jan 28, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

When it comes to fashion, I am all about being casual and comfy while staying chic and femine. My go to outfit is always the same, a pair of skinny or boyfriend jeans sligthy rolled up on the ankles, a pair of high heeled pumps (I know, not the comfiest choice) and an oversized men inspired shirt. I start to own a few of them, with stripes, all white, anything is fine as soon as it looks like I just stole it to any handsome and stylish guy around (and that I'm about to shot the next Maxim cover #isshaymitchellreal?). I love to wear them opened quite low to accentuate the feminity of this masculine piece. I selected a few pieces that I would die to add to my wardrobe (all from Asos, as usual, but you can't beat their free delivery and return policy you know).

THE NEW HOLY GRAIL - BOURJOIS BRONZING PRIMER

Jan 26, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

Usually, it takes some times to really appreciate a product. You need around two weeks to really try it out and get over the first impression. You need some time to see how's your skin reaction, how it shows in pictures, what kind of makeup look you can create with it. But this Bourjois bronzing primer is different. I wanted to get into creamy bronzer for quite a while, it seemed easier to apply and to blend, and gave a more natural effect that some powder bronzer that can leave harsh lines pretty hard to blend on your cheekbones. To make it short, I bought it on friday, after a long should I get a new drugstore or lipstick of face product dilemma. I used it on saturday and sunday (sorry for the gross finger print on the picture), and really wonder how I could live without this thing before. The texture is so so easy to blend, it's super light and it faded perfectly into my foundation (the l'Oréal True Match in C2). It doesn't feel caky at all and create such an healthy and bronzed complexion. You can use it alone or as a primer, and then add your bronzing powder on top. It's the perfect product for contouring, especially if you are a beginner. Drugstore must have, Bourjois just makes it right when it comes to face products!

THE KIKO HAUL

Jan 24, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

Do you know what's better than Kiko? Kiko sales! I had a little shopping trip with my brother the other day, -no need to mention that he kindly waited outside while I was swatching like crazy inside the shop- and got quite a few things. I went to Kiko with a mission, not buying lipstick! And it was a success! I ended up buying two of them water eye shadows, two smart lip pencils and a double glam eye liner. The two eye shadows are gorgeous! The shade 204 is a gorgeous bronzy burgundy and the shade 203 is on that same vibe but a little bit lighter and pinkier. I can't wait to play with these since I don't own any colors like that. The two lip pencils are pretty basics, a classic red and a lovely mauvie pink but ... I had no lip pencils for more than 6 months, so that was a real need! Then final buy, another eye product, a double ended eye pencil, with a deep navy on one end, and a dark brown on the other. Once again, I really want to spice up my eye makeup looks with this little baby! Wish you all a lovely week end peeps!

THE 5 WAY TOO EXPENSIVE BAGS I DREAM ABOUT

Jan 22, 2015

I got my first higher end bag this year on my birthday. After wanting it for a good two years, I finally own the Michael Kors Selma bag in black. And I'm in love with it since I got it. It completely convinced me in splurging more on quality bags. I feel like a nice bag can totally upgrade any outfits. I'm planning as soon as I'll start working, to save a little bit every month so I can finally paid myself one of the five beautiful leather things below!

1. THE GIVENCHY ANTIGONA. This might be one of the most timeless bag on the market, with the classic Prada saffiano leather (ew I should have include this one too!). I think this bag would be the perfect everyday bag, the medium or large one have decent size and are appropriate for work or everyday situations (shopping, coffee with the girls, date with the bae).

Hebergeur d'image

2. THE YSL TASSEL SATCHEL. I am a junkie for everything Saint Laurent, I love most their bags and clutches, but this one as something special. It's the perfect evening bag in my opinion! It's super feminine and classy and looks super duper fancy and chic. It's also easy to carry around because of the gold strap. The size is perfect even for an everyday use, since you can store all of your essentials in it!

Hebergeur d'image

3. THE CHANEL BOY BAG. Um ... I guess I can call that, my ultimate goal in life. Is that stupid? I mean, I wish I can one day reward myself and buy my own Chanel bag, and the Boy is a pretty good option. It's so so expensive, but come on ... this bag is the definition of perfection. I love the chain details, and I would definetly go for a classic black and silver combo!

Hebergeur d'image

4. THE CELINE BLACK BOX. The perfect small sized bag for everyday. The design is quite simple which make it super easy to pair. It's not a fancy and overly brand showing bag, which I love! If I had to chose, I would pick the black snakeskin one.

Hebergeur d'image

5. THE PROENZA SCHOULDER PS11. As the Celine one, the design is quite simple and the size is really convinient for everyday. The front hardware is really nicely designed. The mini version of it is also super lovely.

THE WINTER NAILS, MANICURE WITH THE BEST FRIEND

Jan 19, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

You know there is always a body part that we would love to have from one of our friends. Pretty eyes, smaller nose. It might sounds surprising but ... I always thought my best friend has super duper pretty hands. She has skinny fingers, lovely nails, really feminine and classy hands. During one of our "it's too cold to go out" girly afternoon, we strated talking about nails since we plan to have some gel manicure soon. We ended up going through my tiny tiny nail polish collection to get some colour inspiration, and she wanted to try out that lovely pinky shade. I had to picture the final result since it was super pretty and shiny!

Hebergeur d'image

During winter, it's important to take a good care of your hands and nails. This little Julep guide will help you keep your nail healthy and clean during the colder months! My tips, moisturize, a lot. With cold weather your hands will get dry, and your nails will need that extra hydration to be healthy. Use serum or cream on your cuticules before going to bed, give them a little cut, shorter nails are the way to go for me, I found them classy and timeless, Then before applying your nail polish, put on a coat of a nourishing base so your nails won't get yellow after you remove your nail polish.  We came up with a lovely baby pink color for my best friend her nails, a classy yet lovely color that can match any outfit. If you like this color, you can find a similar one on Julep website called Martha. Their nail polish selection is huge and super affordable!

MY MAKEUP GUILTY PLEASURE

Jan 18, 2015

Hebergeur d'image
I think we all have one makeup guilty pleasure. That makeup item that we love unconditionally, the one we wouldn't mind spending a few more euros -or dolllars, or any type of money you're using- to get. I am personally a lipstick junkie, and I have some serious problem with high end ones mostly because of the packaging. I am all about the YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks. They are to me with the Tom Ford lipsticks the prettiest lip products on the market currently and everytime I want a little make up splurge I'll get a new one. I currently own 4 shades, one of them being my all time favorite lipstick! On the picture below, you can see Pink Lingerie, which is basically the perfect baby pink shade, Pink in Paris, the perfect vintage rose, Fuchsia in Excess, which makes your lips look like you just eat some cherry or redish/pinky fruit, and finally Rose in Tension, kindly gifted by my dad for Christmas. Formula wise, lots of people don't think they worth the price, I think they do, the smell is amazing, they won't last hours and hours on your lips but I'm not the type of girl who mind reapplying my lipstick. Might reward myself for finishing school with a new one soon, any suggestions?

LIEBSTAR AWARD, MY FIRST TAG EVER

Jan 15, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

Hello there! Sorry for being away for more than a week now! The past two weeks have been epic! Basically, I am finishing university tomorrow (no more classes, but and internship and reports to finish), so for the past 14 days I had a crazy amount of exams and presentations and 4 to 5 hours of sleep at night (my skin really loved it). But today I finally had my two last presentations! Tomorrow is the last day of class, and it's bitter sweet in a way, I've spend 5 years of my life in this university, but this year has been special, because of the lovely classmates and the intense amount of work. Got some tensions but in the end lot of laugh and love. It's hard to leave them, but we're all ready to write a new chapter of our lives I guess. Anyway, to restart I decided to reply to some questions that the lovely Alice asked me in the Liebstar Award. I don't have time to pick any of you tonight, but feel free to reply to these questions and link your blog in the comments!

1 - WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK AND WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR?

My favourite book is definelty Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami who is by the way my favourite author. He is japanese and has such an incredible style. I think it's the kind of author that you either really like or totally hate, but I am just completely in love with so many of his books. About Norwegian Wood, I don't want to give you any spoilers but it's a love story between two students, it's kinda hard to explain but it's super poignant and the end guys... just read it until the end. It was just the kind of book, that it's 3AM, have class the next day, but don't care at all because you just can't stop to read it! And I'm so happy to finally have some time for myself to read Murakami new book, and maybe read this one once again.

2 - AN OLD SONG YOU LOVE?
Depends on what's old means here. If it's childhood like old, I would have to say any 2000's Britney Spears song. Stronger, Overprotected? I mean, Crossroads use to be one of my favorite films. Just remind me the girly sleepover at my best friends house. I would have to pick a few Destiny's Child one too. The Beyonce addiction started quite young actually.

3 - WHEN DID YOU START BLOGGING ? WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START?
I'll talk about my more adult blog, because no one care about the old and useless blogs I had when I was a high school student right? So fashion fixes hearts is my first grown up blog. I first started it in 2012, because I was reading a lot of other beauty and fashion blog and felt like I wanted to have my own space to talk about what I liked! But then come the master degree and its crazy amount of work. As my formation has always been super important to me, I decided to stop blogging for a while, because I like to do things a 100% or not at all. But now that I finally have time, I'm starting again and I hope I can give you some good content!

4 - WHAT IS THE FIRST BLOG YOU STARTED READING?
Fashion Toast. I remember how obsessed I was with Rumi style back in 2008! (still obsessed by the way, I think she's one of the blogger with the strongest style identity)

5 - PET PEEVES?
Bad-mannered children and people and general. I can't stand children who are crying to get stuff in shops or talking rude to their parents or strangers. Noisy children in general, in closed space, like buses or planes. Oh and girls who act overlly cute, like ... da girl can you just stop that?

6 - WHAT'S YOUR GO TO NAIL POLISH ?
I'm biting my nails for so long that I can't even reply to this! Let's say that when I'm having my gel manucure done, I usually go for a lovely nude or light pink color because I think it matches every outfit.

7 - WHAT'S YOUR BEST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE?
Tokyo, a 100%. I've been there five times but I can't pick just a single travel. They were all very special to me. I love this city and it really holds an important place in my heart, I feel like it became my second home. I love how it's big and tiny at the same time, I love japanese people, the way they act always so politely, their way of thinking, but also the food, culture and the amazing fashion sense of the population. I can litteraly stay two or three hours by myself in a coffee just staring at people when I'm there. I've met incredible persons, some of them being very good friends now. All of the people I met in Japan were nice, helpful, and respectful.  For many people it might be just another big city, but I just think it's beautiful. I love Tokyo because it just add so much to my life. It gave me love and confidence.

8 - BEST AND WORST SCHOOL SUBJECTS?
I think that talking about "highschool type" subjects will be more relevant here. So ... math, math were the worst school subject EVER to me. I just can't understand it, and I never tried to. For the best, languages, english and spanish were by far my favourites.

9 - FAVOURITE LIPSTICK COLOUR?
How can you ask that to a lipstick junkie. Well I like to wear kind of rosy nude, or antique pink colors. If I had to pick one I would say the Rouge Volupte lipstick by YSL in Pink Paris. Or for a much more affordable option, the Revlon Matte Balm in Elusive. I'm almost out of mine and I'll definetly repurchased it!

10 - DREAM JOB?
I would love to work for a cosmetic company, in the marketing area if possible. But my real dream would be to work in a foreign country. I have interest for the United States, Canada or Asian countries such as Japan for example.

11 - FAVOURITE ONLINE SHOPPING WEBSITE?Sorry, I can't pick between my two absolute loves. Zara and Asos !

A LIPSTICK NAMED CHARLOTTE

Jan 6, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

For a few months, everyone has been talking about the new Nars lipsticks, aka the "Nars Audacious ". And now, I undertsand why girls! Here is the very first Nars Audacious of my collection -which means I plan to get a few more shades-, I got it today, from my best friend for Christmas. And guess what? It's in the shade Charlotte. Can a girl can have a better makeup gift than a lipstick named just like her? Can we talk about those names first? I love the idea of making lipsticks for iconic women because lipstick is to me, one of the most representative item of powerfull and fierce women. I was so glad when I saw that one of the shade actually had my name, and that it was such a pretty color. Charlotte is a kind of plumy/burgundy shade, perfect for the colder season. In the tube it looks more redish but on the lips it's definetly a burgundy. The packaging then is gorgeous, it's very sleek, and has that satisfying click when you close your lipstick because it has a magnetic lid. The formula is super creamy and the finish is semi matte. I just can't wait to work on makeup looks with this beauty!

PS: Just hit the 100 followers on GFC, tiny number in the blogging world but it means a lot, thank you!

FASHION EDIT - THE BRALETTE AND CAGED BRA TREND

Jan 4, 2015

Hebergeur d'image
During the colder months  we all go back to our beloved and comfy grandpa sweaters. How can we not? Feel like having a constant hug without the boyfriend. But still, it's not the most flattering and feminine kind of outfit right? But here is a little tip: think lingerie. For a few years, lovely lace bralettes and caged bras have been all around. They're extremely feminine and girly and super fashionable. It's sexy without being bitchy, reveal without exposing your chest to the face of the world. I like them in the summer under a flowy tank or a nice cotton tee but they are also super winter friendly! Think about it ladies, it's all about staying feminine and flirty during the sweater weather. Here are a few lovely little piece of tissue that will does wonders, all from Asos, might add one of this to my newt order!

BEAUTIFUL FEET KILLER

Jan 1, 2015

Hebergeur d'image

Being a stilettos wearer for years now, I wasn't that affraid by this pair of pumps when I saw them in Zara. It was love at first sight, for real. I saw them on a shelf, shining under the shop lights, and it was litteraly a x100 heart emoji moment. I went crazy! I thought Christmas parties, I thought night out... I needed them so bad. I didn't bought them right away tho, because I was out for Christmas shopping, and convinced myself that for once, I should think about getting other people present and not buy anything for myself. But one week and a few clicks later, my favorite human, aka, my postman, came with a lovely box and finally they were mine. And they're still awesome, certainly one of the prettiest pair of shoes I own. But it's such a pain to walk in them! I'll need lot of practice but hey, that's my new 2015 challenge. Turn the shiny feet killer into pumps slippers. On that ultimate new year resolution, I wish you all an amazing new year, stay healthy, happy, bright and beautiful!
